Haight Ashbury – Murals

Haight Ashbury

There are murals everywhere in the Haight, these are just a few of the better ones.

 Haight and Masonic by Lango

Jimi Hendrix by an unknown artist.  This mural is at 1524 Haight Street, the home of Jimi Hendrix when he lived in San Francisco.  It is now Ashbury Tobacco Center.

This doll is on the Bettie Page Clothing Store at 1529 Haight. (Bettie Page was one of America’s great pin-up girls).  This mural was painted by Amanda Lynn.   Amanda studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and received a Bachelor’s of Fine Art with an Illustration major. After school, she worked independently and freelances on many mural productions and theater set paintings.

If you are interested in learning more about Bettie Page – There is a wonderful article about her life and art here.

These are amazing, actually! It’s wonderful they are out there for all to see.

Great murals – but the eyes on that first one are creepy!

The Lango mural just about jumps off the wall. I remember his scary, aggressive hyenas. I think he’s done the Medusa theme before but this one is more intense. Makes the other two in this post seem quaint. Not a putdown, just a personal response to the energy and painterly skill of Lango’s work. Thanks, Princepessa, for this post and for continuing to participate in the meme.

That Lango piece is incredible! Somehow it doesn’t seem surprising that there are a lot of murals in that area.
Liked the Bettie Paige info too.

I really like the Medusa. All three are terrific.

I remember Bettie Page from her Playboy pictures. I think a friend of mine showed me his Playboy magazine! That’s my story and I’m sticking with it!

    These are all excellent murals!

I loved the Medusa. No matter how scarey her hair is it doesn’t hold a candle to her eyes!
The Bettie Page mural is refreshingly vintage and charming.

I want to see the Medusa mural someday. How vibrant it is.

Very impressive murals, from an area that must be very artistic?
