This is Growing Home’s Community Garden, their mission is to provide a community garden where both homeless and housed San Franciscans work side-by-side to grow nutritious food, access green space, and build community.

The mural on the back wall is by Ben Eine, he has several murals around San Francisco.

In an interview with Proxy SF, Eine said this about the piece, “My problem with this wall was the width between the windows. The first letter I sketched up on this was the ‘E’ and then that gave me the size of each letter going left or right of the ‘E.'” The interview is quite extensive, go to the link above if you are interested in reading it in its entirety.

  1. I like the big letters! The colors are nice too.

  2. Very nice and indeed a great adventure. The more we get to really know one another, generally speaking the better off we are. And it’s a great cause, growing food.

Re your comment on Images: Brown pelicans are generally quite docile. I’ve never been attacked by one. If you have fish nearby, however, you need to keep a look-out, ’cause they are very sneaky and can snatch a fish pretty quick. Actually, what they do mostly is hang around the piers looking for bits and pieces of leftovers and/or hoping that someone will take pity on them and feed them some fishy substance. I like these pelicans very much!

  3. pesky windows getting int he way again! I think he managed to get around them very nicely. love the huge letters.

  4. I never even noticed the windows at first!

  5. I’m always amazed that this is even possible — I would totally make a mess of things. Great mural and photos. 🙂

  6. Lovely mural and a great initiative concerning the community garden. We have several of these here in Melbourne too.

  7. Went back and looked at your other posts about this artist. Now I would recognize his work anywhere. Or at least his style. This is garden is a great adventure and I hope it is a successful one. Your blog is endlessly fascinating and educational. Thank you for continuing to participate in Monday Mural.
